Problem Definition

Challenge

As a reptile collection grows, keeping track of individual animals, feeding, breeding, lineage and incubation becomes increasingly difficult when records are maintained manually across notebooks, spreadsheets or disconnected systems. The challenge was to create one connected system where keepers could record, find and build on an animal's history over time.

Strategic Foundation

Product Thinking

The animal is the central record of the platform. Rather than treating feeding, breeding, incubation and lineage as separate features, the product connects them around the animal and the lifecycle of the collection.

The animal record acts as the central point for identity, husbandry, lineage and history.

Physical-to-Digital Identification

QR codes connect a physical enclosure to its digital animal or clutch record.

Group-to-Individual Management

New clutches can initially be managed as a group before hatchlings are managed separately.

Connected Breeding Lifecycle

Sire + Dam → Breeding → Clutch → Incubation → Hatchlings.

Progressive Information

High-level views support quick scanning while detailed records expose feeding history, lineage and clutch information when required.

By connecting individual animals, husbandry, breeding, clutches and lineage, the platform turns fragmented records into a connected history that can grow with the collection.
